Next year, all the Sinaloa music students and Mr. Eckl invite you to join our exciting music program. Read the rest of this page to learn about all of the exciting classes you can take next year. Music is a great way to make new friends at a new school. Over half the 6th graders at Sinaloa join music every year! 6th Grade Band! At Sinaloa we call 6th grade band, CONCERT BAND. We have class 5 days a week and play lots of different pieces that are challenging and fun. In Concert Band you can play flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, euphonium or electric bass. Some students will also be chosen to be drummers! If you didn’t play in band in 5th grade, you can still join band in 6th. It's good to wait until after the first day of school before renting an instrument so that you can find out more information about different instruments. IF YOUR FAMILY CAN'T AFFORD AN INSTRUMENT, DON'T WORRY, THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT WILL PROVIDE ONE! 6th Grade Choir! 6th Grade CHOIR is a fun and exciting class that we have 5 days a week. You’ll learn how to sing lots of different kinds of pieces like jazz, pop, R&B, gospel, classical, folk and rap. If you’re not a very good singer, Mr. Eckl will help teach you how to sing better. If you’re already a good singer, there will be lots of chances for solos and extra challenging parts. Piano players can also join choir and play piano. If you didn't sing in choir in 5th grade you can still be in 6th grade choir. Jazz Club! JAZZ CLUB is a special class that meets Wednesday mornings before school and you learn how to play jazz music, which is fun and fast with drum-sets, electric basses and pianos. Anyone who is in Concert Band or Choir can join jazz club, but you have to take Choir or Concert Band during the school day also. If you take jazz club as a 6th grader it will help you get into Jazz Band, Dixie Band or Jazz Combo when you are a 7th grader. You have to be in regular band to be in Jazz Club. Show Choir! SHOW CHOIR happens 1 day a week after school and anyone who is in 6th grade Choir or Concert Band can join. In show choir you learn how to sing a song and put a dance routine with it. If you like to dance and sing, then this is the class for you! You have to be in regular band or regular choir to be in Show Choir. Musical! Every year Sinaloa Music puts on a big MUSICAL. A musical is a play with singing and dancing. Anyone who is in 6th grade Choir or Concert Band can join. There are big lead rolls and small parts also. If you want to be part of the musical but don’t want to be on stage, you can be part of stage crew and run the stage lights or the sound effects. Musical rehearsals happen after school. You have to be in regular band or regular choir to be in the Musical. Rock Band! In 6th grade you can also be in our 6th grade ROCK BAND classes that meet at lunch and after school. In the rock bands you can play electric guitar, bass, keyboards, drums or sing. Anyone who is in Concert Band or Choir can be in a rock band, but you have to take Choir or Concert Band during the school day also. If you like music as a 6th grader you can keep doing it as a 7th and 8th grader. We have a 7th grade band, an 8th grade band, a 7th and 8th grade choir, a rock band, a jazz band, a jazz choir, a Dixieland Band, a mariachi band, an a cappella choir, and a percussion ensemble.
