Marin County Marching Band
Updates
Students and Parents

Its time to get start planning for our very exciting trip to Washington D.C. A trip of this magnitude requires a strong commitment on the part of parents and students to ensure
that we represent our state well and have a fun and safe trip.

Throughout the year you receive LOTS of information about going on this trip. This information will be sent home with students and sent through email. There will also be
periodic parent meetings, especially closer to the trip, to go over travel information, payments, safety, etc. A large packet of this information was already sent home with your
son/daughter during the school year. Click on the page titled, “
More Information” to read the first packet.

Below are the steps to follow for participating in the Marin County Marching Band:

1. Register  - Music Celebrations International has created a website that will contain updates, trip information, and itineraries and allow Mr. Eckl to contact everyone as a
group. Registering on this site creates and roster of names for me to use in planning the trip. Later, parents can also make payments via this site with a credit card.
  •       Go to: musiccelebrations.com
  •       Click on “my MCI login”
  •       Go to "create account here"
  •       When asked to enter the group code, enter “10046dcw”
  •       When asked for the group password enter “MCI”
  •       Enter all of the information, be sure to use the STUDENT’S name when filling out this portion.
  •       Be sure to use an email address that will be checked frequently for updates.

2.  Attend the marching band camp on Monday, August 17th and Tuesday, August 18th, 3:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
  •        This marching band camp in required unless students have very special commitments that cannot be avoided. If a student cannot attend the camp or needs to
miss a portion of the camp please contact Mr. Eckl immediately. These dates and times were sent home in April.
  •        At the marching band camp we will learn marching fundamentals, get the music and learn more about the trip.
  •       Students will need to wear comfortable, outdoor clothing and bring a dinner and a water bottle.
  •       Students will need their instruments.

3.  Parent Help. This trip requires a large amount of help. Please read the job descriptions below and let Mr. Eckl know if you are interested in helping out. For all of these
jobs, you will receive guidance from Mr. Eckl. Parents who take on the jobs listed below will be first in consideration for being a parent chaperone on the trip, if you want to
come.
  •        Public relations – organizing newspaper, radio and T.V. exposure.
  •        Equipment coordinator – helping organize equipment that we will be taking or the trip and measuring and weighing instruments for the plane.
  •        Funding  – we need LOTS of extra funding for the trip. This job entails approaching local businesses for help with funding in return for advertising on the
uniforms, mention in the local papers, performances at their place of business, etc.
  •        Fundraising – keeping track of payments, helping with fundraisers, organizing c.d. sales.
  •        Uniforms -  helping  to find inexpensive uniforms, measuring students for the uniforms and organizing uniform distribution.
  •        Driving – the trip organizers have recommended that if possible we have parents drive an equipment truck to Washington D.C. instead of flying the instruments
there. To fly all of the instruments, including tubas, sousaphones, bass drums, etc. will cost a lot of extra money. There is also the worry of damage on the planes, or
losing the instruments. If you would even consider doing this job, please let Mr. Eckl know as soon as possible.

4.  Prepare for being in the M.C.M.B. Students and parents need to be aware of the following before participating in the marching band.

  •        Every effort will be made to provide fundraising opportunities for the trip.  This will include c.d. sales, fundraising performances, candy sales and anything else we
can think of. The final cost of the trip will be around $1,200. The final price will depend on the number of participants. The payments are non-refundable and will need
to be made on a schedule listed below. Students will also need to purchase a uniform, more information on that later. The uniform cost will be under $100. Fundraising
opportunities are available to Sinaloa students only.
    1.        Sept. 12th - $200
    2.        November 12th - $240
    3.        January 12th - $240
    4.        March 15th - $300
    5.        April 15th – remainder of the cost, depending on final numbers of students.

  •        Very clear learning goals will be presented to the students. These goals will be set-up as 3 tests that each student will need to pass before going on the trip.
These tests will ensure that all of the students attending the trip have earned a spot in the band. Students will be given help on these tests, as well as multiple chances
to pass these tests, but must pass in order to go on the trip.
    1.        Basic marching skills.
    2.        Ability to play the music correctly and memorized.
    3.        Trip procedures (written test).

  •        Behavior: Students who participate in the M.C.M.B. will be expected to behave in a mature and respectful manner. School rules, as well as marching band specific
rules, will be in place. Any student who habitually misbehaves will be asked to leave the M.C.M.B.

  •        Grades: Students must keep their grades up to participate in the M.C.M.B. No D’s, No F’s.  If a student receives a D or F on a progress report or report card they
will be suspended from the M.C.M.B. until their grade is brought up.

  •        Rehearsal Schedule – Every Tuesday night, starting August 25th, 6:30-8:30 p.m. No rehearsals on school holidays. Students may miss a very limited number of
rehearsals for illness or special events. Missing rehearsal for special events requires notification one week before the absence. Be aware that joining this group
means making a strong commitment. Students who are unable to keep up with the group due to missed rehearsals will not be able to participate in the trip. These
rehearsals will be held at Sinaloa.

IMPORTANT: Below is a roster of names of student who indicated that they would like to participate in the Marin County Marching Band. If there is a name
missing of someone you think would like to participate in the trip, or someone from another school who would like to participate, please forward them all of
this information and have them contact Mr. Eckl at sinaloamiddleschoolband@yahoo.com.
